Following strong demand for charters on Sydney Harbour last season, we are seeking investors for a new Aquila 44 and Aquila 36 to be managed and operated by our new charter boat business ‘Charter Boat Central’. We have very limited space so there is strictly available for one boat only of each model. We beleive that each model built to 1E survey will present a competitive and niche top end charter product for Sydney harbour, with healthy returns expected. With a falling AUD, the Sydney Tourism industry is in the front seat to benefit and we will be working with industry experts and agencies to ensure we reach specialised markets, while we also take care of all management services to provide a concierge service for the boat owner who also gains from the financial and tax benfits, including ability to claim back GST and…

The award-winning Seawind 1260 will be displayed at the upcoming Pittwater Sail Expo on the 27th & 28th April as hosted by the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club in Newport. In December last year, the highly read and respected ‘Cruising World Magazine’ of the USA named the Australian designed Seawind 1260 as the ‘Best Cruising Catamaran Under 50 feet’ up against the largest boat builders in the world. With 35 years of heritage designing and building production cruising catamarans, Seawind boats key performance features such as twin helms for short handed sailing, lower aspect boom for less pitching, monocoque structure for stiffness and at only 8 tonne lightship displacement the design is up to 30% lighter than its competitors. Combined with the innovative trifold door system that Seawind is famous for providing indoor outdoor living with a new alfresco lounge and galley, large opening…
Industry experts will explain the ins and outs of charter boat ownership programs for both Sydney Harbour and the Whitsundays at a live seminar at 2pm on Saturday the 27th of April at the Pittwater Sail Expo. Presented by Brent Vaughan of Multihull Central, Sharon McNally of Cumberland Yacht Charters and John Eldick of Sumplus mortgage brokers, the seminar aims to both unpack the key considerations for charter boat ownership programs from survey requirements, expected financial returns and how to best approach financing a boat. Brent Vaughan, author of the book ‘Seabbaticals”, has spent 20 years placing new charter boats for customers into fleets around Australia and currently has a charter boat operating on Sydney harbour. Brent will be explaining the importance having your boat survey approved before operating along with providing financial details of the Sydney Harbour charter market. Sharon McNally is the…
We plan to take our little Seawind 1000 catamaran ‘Seabbatical’ from Sydney Harbour, to Lady Musgrave Island. As I still have the demands of running a business and kids at school, this will be a mini seabbatical and so finding time is important but demanding. We will wait for the South Easterly trades to kick in which usually start around Easter time in Sydney. So in May we will send the boat north to Brisbane which is also as the cyclones start to slow down. Trade winds blow from the South East from around May through to October each year. These trades strengthen the further north you go while in NSW they are often aligned with low pressure fronts moving through from the south. These low pressure systems move further north during winter and further south during summer. During summer we are more affected…
‘Pirate Pete’ is the proud new owner of the brand new Seawind 1260, that Cumberland Charter Yachts will be welcoming in to the fleet in August this year. We asked him what his background story was in buying the Seawind 1260 and why he chose to have it chartered in the Whitsundays. Here is his story: Where it all began I guess my story began in 1986 when I was at university studying to be a PE teacher. A friend and I hitch hiked from Canberra to the Whitsundays for an adventure as we had never traveled that far north before. We had no money (hence the hitch hiking) and camped by the side of the road or people who gave us lifts offered to put us up for the night. We arrived in Airlie Beach and stayed in a backpackers for a week…
In an earlier issue of Nautilus Marine Magazine, I introduced the concept of a ‘Seabbatical’ as a means of enriching your life by taking time out earlier in life and bring about a cruising adventure to explore the islands and oceans of Australia, the Pacific or even the world. So I’ve decided to embark on my own Seabbatical journey and document the experience along the way. Turning 40 helped encourage me to pull my finger out and start putting some things into action and with my business continually growing and ratcheting up the stress levels like a frog in a frying pan, its time to see how I can get on the water too. I don’t intend to check out of life full time though and I don’t think you have to – its all about balance. All elements of my business have been…
