Peter Johnson is our newest member of the Seawind Family with his Seawind 1160 ‘Pegasus’. The story of his journey to becoming a sailor and boat owner is inspirational. In his own words ‘Because life is just too short not to follow your dreams’ ‘Dad was still relatively young when Alzheimer’s began to take him. At the point where they said he might have as little as a year left, I took compassionate leave to spend more time withim. I struggled with the injustice of it. He was being robbed of the long and enjoyable retirement he’d worked so hard for. I was in my late forties and jaded after nearly a decade at the same media company, less in love with my work, working longer and longer hours and unhealthier for it. The need to spend more time with Dad was also a…

Former Seawind 1160 syndicate owner Geoff Brow, has had a tree change and with his ultimate RV Touring set up is off around Australia. Included in the rig is a Takacat Sport. Geoff chose the Takacat as it was not only light enough to lift easily on top of the trailer but also versatile enough to fish from or explore the waterways around the country. We wish Geoff the best of luck with his tour and are looking forward to seeing the photos of his adventures. In exciting news from Aquila Powercats there is now a Passage Maker option which gives the boats almost double the range of the standard set up. By moving the water tanks and installing two new 360L fuel tanks in the forward compartments plus utilizing the 360L aft fuel tank option the fuel capacity can be taken from 1100L to 2180L. At the long range speed of 6.5kts this will take the range from 718NM to around 1400NM with a 5% reserve, comfortably allowing you to travel from Sydney to Auckland or Airlie Beach on just one tank of fuel. This is a substantial increase in the possibilities of what you can do with these amazing boats and for anyone wanting to explore the world in comfort. By Brent Vaughan Charter boat ownership is a great way to accelerate buying your dream boat, profit from strong demand in the tourism industry and provides a fully managed solution to boat ownership while you are still busy working and with family commitments. So once you find a boat that will satisfy AMSA survey requirements, a charter company that will offer returns and look after your boat, the third consideration is how to pay for it. Now cash is obviously the cheapest form of finance, but seeing the boat will become essentially an asset of a business, it’s logical to consider financing a solid portion via a loan. In exciting news from Takacat Inflatables, they have announced a one piece, fully rigid, fiberglass deck option for the Takacat LX series will be coming soon. Unlike a conventional RIB the deck is fully removable for easy transportation & maintenance. This is an ideal option for customers who are after a rigid inflatable boat / catamaran. The deck has loads of buoyancy and can also be used separately as a float / paddle board. Stay tuned more to come soon.
The Australian owned Outremer 5X launched last month from the Outremer factory at La Grande Motte, France. One of the best looking Outremer Catamarans we have seen she was launched just in time to compete in the Outremer Cup 2018, where she came third in her first regatta. Congratulations to Dr Bill and Liz Donnelly on such an impressive looking boat and doing so well in this hotly contested regatta. Check out the video of her test sail and photos from the Outremer Cup below.
