Sydney, Australia – 17 February 2025
This week 20 multihulls entered the 2025 Sydney Multihull Regatta, involving three races up the length of beautiful Sydney Harbour with lunchtime raft ups and onshore dinners in between and plenty of socialising.
Supported by Seawind Catamarans and Corsair Trimarans, the regatta was hosted by Multihull Central and the Multihull Cruising Yacht Club from their marina base in Rozelle Bay.
The fleet had a full range of conditions, starting with a 25 knot north easterly on Thursday afternoon to blow out the cobwebs. Most boats had a reef in and flew around the course in record time with the fastest elapsed time by the Corsair 880, but first on corrected time going to Seawind 1000 Mintaka.
Race two was hampered by rain showers and light winds with the fleet drifting around the course, testing everyone’s patience, however Seawind 1160 Lite slipped away winning by a significant margin with the fastest elapsed time and up against some stiff competition.
A raft up in Athol Bay for lunch was a great opportunity for some trimaran sailors to dry out, and everyone else to share a yarn and share some great food, with the view of the opera house and harbour bridge in the background.
Race three was set in perfect conditions with a 12 knot northerly building as the rain clouds cleared away. This provided for some excellent racing with the performance boats excelling with Seawind 24 Dream taking out first placed on corrected time and the Seawind 1370 ‘Spritz’ taking a notable 4th position just behind Schionning Waterline ‘Forza 2’ and Seawind 1160 Lite ‘Sea Glass’. The Corsair 880 again the fastest around the course on elapsed time as you would expect.
After hours and the fleet returned to the Multihull Central base for woodfired pizzas and the award ceremony under the marquee and with the City lights in the background. Seawind’s Richard Ward officially welcomed the first Seawind 1370 to Australia and many prizes were then given to the value of $8,000 including lucky door prizes.
